    Create a dataset

    Keep the values your tests reuse in one place, not scattered through them

    Steps

    1. Open Data under Data Management

      The line under the heading is the one that matters: reference a variable in a test with double-brace syntax. Change the value here and every test using it picks up the new value on its next run — you don't touch the tests at all.

    2. Name the dataset for what it is

      Group by purpose rather than by person where you can. A dataset called "Branch Caller Details" survives a change of test data; one called after a single person tends not to.

    4. Copy the usage snippet

      Use lowercase with underscores. The snippet is generated from whatever you type, so a key with a space or a capital produces a reference that is awkward to use later.

    6. Watch a secret mask itself

      Masking is about shoulder-surfing and screenshots, not encryption. Treat a secret as hidden from view, not as a vault.
